This 3-day safari takes you to one of Tanzania’s top destinations for adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. You will travel north to the world’s largest caldera, home to Africa’s Big Five: black rhinos, elephants, lions, leopards, and African buffaloes.
This road trip offers an escape to the rural parts of the country, providing a truly immersive experience.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, established in 1959, includes the Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge, the historic site where fossils of Zinjanthropus, believed to be among Earth’s first inhabitants, were found.
You will enjoy a full-day game drive and many surprises in this unique conservation area, reportedly discovered by Austrian explorer Oscar Baumann in the 1800s.
In 2015, it was recognized as one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders. Your safari begins and ends in Arusha, Tanzania.
Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Upon arrival at the airport, you will meet your driver-guide for greetings, documentation, and a briefing. Then, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, with a stop at the historic Olduvai Gorge to learn about the origins of some of Earth’s earliest inhabitants.
The Olduvai Gorge is where Zinjanthropus fossils, among the oldest in the world, were discovered.
As the journey continues, enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape, diverse flora, bustling towns, and traditional homesteads. Lunch will be served en route, and you will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon for refreshments, dinner, and a restful night.
If time permits, a guided hike to the top of the crater will offer a spectacular view of the landscape and animal habitats in one of the world’s natural wonders.
Day 2: Exploring the Ngorongoro Crater
Start your day with energy, ready to take photos and enjoy unforgettable views during 6-7 hours of exploration. Breakfast and lunch will be served within this wildlife haven.
Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest unbroken caldera, home to over 300 animal species, including the African Big Five: lions, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos, and elephants.
Other wildlife you may see includes wildebeests, zebras, cheetahs, impalas, kudus, hippos, hyenas, golden jackals, and various bird species such as Jackson’s widowbird, lesser flamingos, black kites, African spoonbills, and Kori bustards.
Notable plant species include Acacia abyssinica, abutilon indicum, chickpea, Bermuda grass, blue jacaranda, and yellow oleander. After a full day of photography and exploration, return to the lodge at sunset for refreshments, dinner, and an overnight stay.
