Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Safari Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Our tour guide will pick you up from Kigali City and transfer you to Akagera National Park. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Ihema. This cruise rewards you with sights of crocodiles, hippos, several species of bird life, and more mammals that come to the lake shores to hydrate.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive

Undertake a full day game drive in the park, heading to the northern section, a spot teeming with wildlife herds. Sights here include elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, and many more species.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Wake up early and drive south toward Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, visit the Ethnographic Museum in Butare and the former Presidential Palace in Nyanza before completing your journey to Nyungwe Forest.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk

Head to the forest very early to locate the chimpanzees before they wake up. Once located, spend an hour observing them before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a canopy walk through the forest for a perfect elevated view of the surroundings.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu

Drive to Lake Kivu following the Congo Nile Divide Trail. If you arrive early enough, take a boat cruise on Lake Kivu to Coffee Island and back.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and Visit Musanze Caves

Transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze, a small town in the northern province of Rwanda. In the afternoon, visit the mystical Musanze Caves before retiring to your lodge for the night.

Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Departure

On the last day of your safari, report to the park headquarters by 7:00 am for a briefing, then head into the jungle to search for mountain gorillas.

The activity may last up to 8 hours depending on how long it takes to locate the gorillas. Spend one hour with them once found, then return to the park headquarters to collect your gorilla trekking certificates before proceeding to Kigali for your departure flight.
