Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi – Biega National Park
Wake up to a hefty breakfast at the lodge before driving to the park headquarters for a briefing by expert ranger guides who possess a wealth of knowledge regarding these apes in their natural habitat.
The briefing session starts very early in the morning and lasts for roughly 30 minutes. You will be informed of the trekking rules and have your trekking documents verified before starting the trekking exercise, heading to where the apes were last spotted in the previous days.
The trekking exercise lasts roughly 1-6 hours, with an additional hour to closely watch these apes, take photos as they feed, and observe the silverbacks standing majestically with the entire group.
There are several other primates, birds, and flora to look out for while trekking with a family of habituated gorillas.
Finish the trekking exercise and return for lunch at the lodge before spending the rest of the evening relaxing until dinner and bedtime.
Day 3: Transfer to Virunga National Park
Brighten this morning with a delicious breakfast before checking out of the lodge for a long day’s transfer to Virunga National Park, the oldest and most naturally gifted national park on the African continent.
Virunga National Park provides asylum to more than a quarter of the total mountain gorilla species in the vast Virunga chain of mountains.
You will have an en-route stopover for lunch at the shores of Lake Kivu and stopovers for photography at different attractions as your driver guide deems appropriate.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Virunga
After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, depart with a packed lunch for the park headquarters for a briefing and trekking experience.
Mountain gorillas are social creatures, spending their days moving from one place to another in search of new territory and food.
In approximately 1-7 hours of primate trekking exercise, you will find these gentle apes on the ground or playing up in the tree branches, with the silverbacks attracting a lot of attention, charming youngsters playing, and mothers nursing their young ones.
Carefully following the set instructions by the park ranger guide, you will spend one hour closely watching the troop, taking photos, and asking questions.
Although the gorillas may approach visitors closely, you should remain calm and never run away.
