Detailed Express Virunga Gorilla Trekking Itinerary
This 2-day Congo gorilla tour is a short but fulfilling escapade.
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Goma
Early in the morning, our safari guide will pick you up from Kigali and transfer you to Goma in Congo. The drive takes approximately 5 – 6 hours.
You will have lunch en route in Gisenyi before crossing into Congo for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Departure
Wake up early and drive to the park headquarters for your morning briefing. This meeting will cover the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking, as well as dos and don’ts.
During the briefing, you will be assigned to groups of 8 persons and given random mountain gorilla groups to track.
Immediately after the briefing, you will begin your trek accompanied by an armed ranger for protection. Gorilla trekking is a physical activity and can take between 2 to 5 hours, depending on the gorilla group’s location. This time includes a one-hour encounter with these gentle primates.
After meeting the gorillas, you will return to the starting point and drive back to Kigali International Airport in Rwanda to catch your departure flight.
Note: This 2-day Congo tour requires early arrival in Rwanda and a late departure. Please plan accordingly.
