Spending 5-6 hours on the road may not be ideal for everyone, making a 3-day Masai Mara flying safari a perfect alternative. This short trip takes you to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s vast nature reserve, home to many big cats, open grasslands, and scattered acacia trees.
The Maasai Mara covers up to 1,510 sq. km and supports a wide range of Africa’s most popular mammals. Animals found in the Maasai Mara include African elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, lions, leopards, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, Thomson’s gazelles, topis, hyenas, cheetahs, foxes, hippos, warthogs, and about 470 bird species.
This African safari includes encounters with the Big Five and the Great Wildebeest Migration. June to October is the best time to witness the Great Migration in the Mara Reserve, with one of the most memorable events being the Mara River crossing, where wildebeests plunge into the water while crocodiles wait.
Day 1: Safari from Nairobi to Maasai Mara
At 7:00 am, you will be picked up from your hotel or location in Nairobi and transferred to Wilson Airport. Fly to the Maasai Mara, enjoying breathtaking aerial views of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Arrive at one of the Maasai Mara airstrips and proceed to your lodge for relaxation.
After refreshments and some rest, embark on an afternoon game drive. This outing offers an opportunity to spot grazers and other animals such as lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes. Return to the safari camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Full-Day Mara Game Drive with a Trained Guide
Start your day with breakfast, then leave your camp or lodge with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive. Explore the diverse animal species, including African buffaloes, elephants, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, waterbucks, impalas, topis, gazelles, and various bird species. If your trip is between June and September, don’t miss the incredible wildebeest migration.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness of the Masai Mara. Continue the afternoon game drive, searching for more wildlife. If time allows, you may visit a Maasai village to meet the local Maasai community living near the reserve. Afterward, return to your camp or lodge for relaxation and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Departure from Masai Mara
After breakfast, check out and head to the nearby airstrip for your morning flight back to Nairobi. Upon landing at Wilson Airport, you will either be transferred to your hotel in Nairobi or proceed with your flight back home, marking the end of the 3-day Masai Mara Flying Safari.
