The Senkwekwe Mountain Gorilla Orphanage is a popular attraction in Virunga National Park, serving as a sanctuary for orphaned and rescued gorillas. The center, established in 2010 through donations from well-wishers worldwide, provides care for these animals.
Rwenzori Mountain Trekking
On the border between DR Congo and Uganda, adventure enthusiasts will find a majestic hiking experience on the Rwenzori Mountains, one of the world’s few snow-capped block mountains. Though the hike requires physical fitness and experience, the reward of conquering its rugged slopes is well worth the effort.

Nyiragongo Volcanic Trek
Another option is a trek to the top of the Nyiragongo volcano. While gorilla trekking is the most popular activity, hiking Nyiragongo offers a unique and exhilarating experience. The hike takes about four to five hours, and as soon as you arrive in Goma, you’ll spot the active volcano. The climb to the summit takes you through tropical rainforest landscapes.
