Detailed 3-Day Bwindi Mgahinga Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
On the first day, you will be picked up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali at 8:30 am. You will enjoy a city tour that includes visits to Kimironko Market, the Genocide Memorial Site in Gisozi, craft markets, and other sites of interest.
After the tour, return for lunch and later transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Katuna border. You will arrive in the Ruhija sector in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After an early breakfast at 6:30 am, drive to the ranger station with your packed lunch and bottled water for a briefing at 7:30 am.
You will then begin the gorilla trekking activity led by park rangers. The trek usually takes between 2 to 8 hours depending on the gorillas’ movement and the pace of the group. Once you find them, you will spend one hour observing and taking photos.
After trekking, enjoy your packed lunch before driving to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro District. The drive takes about one and a half hours and passes through the Kigezi Highlands and Echuya Forest.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Return to Kigali
Have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing before starting your golden monkey trek. The experience is similar to gorilla trekking but usually lasts 3 to 5 hours.
After trekking, return to the lodge to freshen up, then transfer back to Kigali. You will be dropped at the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your 3-day Uganda Gorillas and Golden Monkeys safari from Kigali.
