The trip begins with arrival at Goba Airport, followed by a drive to Bale Mountains. Travelers start their hike, spotting rare wildlife like Menelik’s bushbuck, mountain nyala, and various bird species.
The trek continues from Dinsho to Sodota, passing Web Valley and Fincha Habera Waterfall, where the Ethiopian wolf may be seen.
The journey then moves through Wasema and Sanetti Plateau, offering stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. Next, they explore Harenna Forest, home to Bale monkeys and rare birds.
Finally, they return to Robe before flying back to Addis Ababa from Goba Airport.
Day 1: Arrival at Bale Mountains
You will arrive at Goba Airport, where our guide will meet you and drive you to the Bale Mountains. Upon arrival, you will check in and receive instructions before starting the hike.
During the hike, we will have chances to see the rare and endemic Menelik’s bushbuck and mountain nyala. Other animals in this area include warthogs, reedbucks, gray duikers, and baboons. The bird species we may see include the black-headed siskin, wattled ibis, and Abyssinian catbird, all of which are commonly found in the woodland areas of the Bale Mountains.
Day 2: Trek from Dinsho to Sodota Campsite
After breakfast, we will hike about 18 kilometers to Sodota. This trek offers stunning views and beautiful scenery.
Along the way, we will see the Web Valley and the Fincha Habera Waterfall, where the Web and Wolla Rivers meet. This spot is also a good place to look for the rare Ethiopian wolf and endemic birds such as the blue-winged goose.
Day 3: Trek from Sodota to Wasema
Today, we will hike to Wasema, an area with breathtaking landscapes and scenic views. The trek will take us through the Mararo Valley, which is known for lammergeiers and Verreaux’s eagles that nest in the cliffs.
The Ethiopian wolf has also been spotted here on several occasions. The hike will take about 7 hours.
Day 4: Trek to Sanetti Plateau
We will hike to the beautiful Sanetti Plateau. Some of the notable wildlife we expect to see include falcons, raptors, and the Ethiopian wolf.
The Afro-alpine moorland vegetation provides stunning views, and we will also explore the lakes on the plateau.
Day 5: Drive to Harenna Forest
Today, we will hike to the Harenna Forest, the second-largest tropical rainforest in Ethiopia.
While in the forest, we may see rare wildlife such as the Ethiopian wolf, ruddy shelduck, wattled crane, blue-winged goose, and Abyssinian hare. Another endemic mammal to look out for is the Bale monkey.
Later, we will return to Robe for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer to the Airport for Your Flight to Addis Ababa
After an early breakfast, we will drive to Goba Airport in time for our flight back to Addis Ababa.
