Day 1: Flight from Addis Ababa to Bale Mountains
You will arrive at Goba Airport, where our guide will meet you and drive you to the Bale Mountains. Upon arrival, you will check in and receive instructions before starting the hike.
During the hike, we will have chances to see the rare and endemic Menelik’s bushbuck and mountain nyala. Other animals found in this area include warthogs, reedbucks, gray duikers, and baboons. Some of the bird species we may see include the black-headed siskin, wattled ibis, and Abyssinian catbird. These birds are easily found in the woodland areas of the Bale Mountains.
Day 2: Explore Bale Mountains – Sanetti Plateau
After breakfast, we will hike the Sanetti Plateau, which rises about 4,000 meters above sea level. The plateau is covered with beautiful Afro-alpine vegetation.
This area is home to the rare Ethiopian wolf. It also has the largest Afro-alpine forest in Africa. You will see many rodents and small mammals here, including hares, rock hyraxes, and the giant mole rat.
Day 3: Explore Bale Mountains – Harenna Forest
After breakfast, we will head to the Harenna Forest, located in the southern part of the national park. This is one of only two tropical rainforests in Ethiopia.
If you missed seeing the Ethiopian wolf earlier, you may get another chance here. Other wildlife to look out for includes the Bale monkey, which is found only in this area, as well as giant frogs, olive baboons, and colobus monkeys.
Day 4: Flight Back to Addis Ababa
