Detailed 15-Day Madagascar Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo & Hotel Transfer
Upon arrival at the international airport in Antananarivo, your English-speaking tour guide will meet and welcome you. After handling formalities and currency exchange, you will be transferred safely to your hotel in the city center, where you can rest and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 2: Drive to Antsirabe with Pottery Workshop Visit
Your adventure begins today as you travel south to Antsirabe. Along the way, you’ll see red-mud houses and beautiful landscapes. There will be a stop at a pot-making factory where you can observe how aluminum pots are made. Later, you’ll continue to your hotel to relax.
Day 3: Rickshaw Tour of Antsirabe & Travel to Miandrivazo
After a good breakfast, you will go on a fun rickshaw city tour. Afterward, you will take National Road 34 to reach Miandrivazo. You’ll stop in Betafo for a hike and visit a local school, then continue to Miandrivazo, arriving in the late afternoon.
Day 4: Travel to Kirindy & Night Walk
Today you prepare for the journey to Kirindy. Several stops are planned along the way to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery of western Madagascar. In the evening, you’ll take a night walk in Kirindy Reserve to see various species of lemurs (berthe and murinus), snakes, and the famous giant jumping rat (Hypogeomys antimena), which is unique to western Madagascar.
Day 5: Explore Kirindy Reserve & Sunset at Baobab Avenue
After breakfast, you’ll visit Kirindy Reserve. You may encounter the fossa (Cryptoprocta ferox), sifaka lemurs, red-fronted brown lemurs, couas, paradise flycatchers, and the narrow-striped mongoose.
You’ll also see baobabs and young palissandre trees. In the afternoon, you will return to Morondava, stopping at the famous Avenue of the Baobabs. Here, you’ll feel the magical atmosphere and take pictures of the giant Grandidieri baobabs, one of Madagascar’s seven species. You’ll enjoy a sunset that creates a memorable view.
Day 6: Return Journey to Antsirabe
Today you travel back to Antsirabe. The journey includes photo stops to enjoy the landscape and stretch your legs. After a few hours, you will arrive in Antsirabe and settle in at your hotel.
Day 7: Drive to Ambalavao & Cultural City Tour
After breakfast, you will head to Ambalavao. When you arrive, you can join a cultural city tour, including a visit to a paper factory that produces handmade paper from the Havoha tree—a method introduced by Arab traders. Afterward, you’ll check in to your hotel and relax.
Day 8: Visit Anja Park & Travel to Ranohira
Today’s destination is Ranohira. On the way, you will stop at Anja Park, home to many ring-tailed lemurs. Continuing toward Ihosy, you’ll notice the change from green highlands to dry southern landscapes.
You’ll pass the “Gateway to the South” granite formation and the Bishop’s Hat, a sacred site, before arriving in Ranohira, at the edge of Isalo National Park.
End the day watching the sunset from the famous “Window of Isalo.”
Day 9: Full-Day Hike in Isalo National Park
You will spend the day exploring Isalo National Park, famous for its sandstone formations. The rugged mountains, deep gorges, and clear pools will amaze you.
Enjoy the fresh air as you hike through the peaceful environment, where the rocks change color and canyons carry water even in the dry season. After your hike, cool off in a natural swimming pool.
Day 10: Travel to Ranomafana National Park & Night Walk
Today you head to Ranomafana, home to one of the last mountain forests in the world. Ranomafana National Park offers nature lovers unforgettable views and many animal and plant species. You’ll end the day with a night walk in the park.
Day 11: Morning Walk in Ranomafana & Return to Antsirabe
This morning, you’ll go on a guided walk in Ranomafana National Park, where you can see golden bamboo lemurs, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, mantellas, and giraffe weevils.
After your visit, you’ll travel back toward Antsirabe, stopping along the way to stretch and enjoy the scenery. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon.
Day 12: Drive to Andasibe & Night Walk
Today you’ll leave for Andasibe, located in the east and home to Perinet Reserve. You’ll arrive in the afternoon, where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of lemurs and other wildlife.
In the evening, you can take a night walk to spot nocturnal animals like frogs, chameleons, and night-active lemurs.
Day 13: Explore Andasibe National Park & Vakona Reserve
After breakfast, you’ll visit Andasibe National Park to search for the indri lemur, the largest living lemur. You’ll also discover a variety of plants, geckos, and other lemurs.
After lunch, you’ll visit Vakona Reserve, where you’ll find an island full of friendly lemurs and a crocodile park. The lemurs here are used to visitors and may come close, offering great photo opportunities.
Day 14: Return to Antananarivo with Stop at Peyrieras Reserve
After breakfast, you’ll travel back to Antananarivo. Along the way, you’ll stop at the private Peyrieras “Madagascar Exotic” farm. This is your chance to see many species of butterflies, including the world’s largest butterfly, the comet, with a 30 cm wingspan.
You’ll also see chameleons, lizards, snakes, bats, and other animals. In the afternoon, you’ll return to your hotel in the capital.
Day 15: Visit Photography Museum & Souvenir Shopping, Then Departure
Today marks the end of your adventure. Before your departure, you’ll visit the Andohalo Photography Museum to learn about the history of the highlands during the royal era.
Then, you’ll visit local markets to buy souvenirs. Finally, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home, taking wonderful memories of Madagascar’s wildlife and landscapes with you.
