Detailed 16-Day Madagascar Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo & Hotel Transfer

Welcome to Antananarivo and Madagascar! When you arrive at Ivato Airport, your representative will meet you and transfer you to your comfortable hotel near the airport. Here, you can relax and refresh while enjoying views of the capital city.

Day 2: Drive to Miandrivazo via Ambatolampy & Antsirabe

After breakfast at the hotel, you will travel to Miandrivazo, passing through Ambatolampy, a town known for its pot workshop and metal foundry. You will stop briefly to visit, then continue to Antsirabe and finally reach Miandrivazo, famous for its warm weather and local Malagasy community.

Day 3: Travel to Morondava & Night Walk in Kirindy Forest

You will travel from Miandrivazo to Morondava, meeting the Sakalava people and seeing the famous baobab trees. After passing through small villages, you will arrive in Morondava. From here, the road to Kirindy connects Morondava to Belo-sur-Tsiribihina. Kirindy Forest is home to Madagascar’s largest carnivore, the Fosa (Cryptoprocta ferox). You can enjoy a night walk to observe wildlife in the reserve.

Day 4: Overland Journey to Bekopaka & Tsiribihina River Crossing

After breakfast, you will leave for Bekopaka. The road is rough but makes the journey exciting. First, you will reach Tsimafana, where you will cross the Tsiribihina River by ferry. You will arrive at Bekopaka in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Explore Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

Today you will visit Tsingy de Bemaraha, a mineral forest listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sharp limestone peaks form a maze of rifts and crevasses. In the afternoon, you can relax or explore more on your own. You may also choose an optional tour to visit the Little Tsingy, with a boat trip through the river gorge to see caves and Sakalava tombs.

Day 6: Return to Morondava with Sunset at Baobab Alley

After breakfast, you will travel back to Morondava, crossing the Tsiribihina River again. In the evening, you will stop at the Alley of Baobabs at sunset, a perfect time to take photos of the glowing trees. You will then continue to Morondava.

Day 7: Sunrise at Baobab Alley & Drive to Antsirabe

Start your day early with sunrise at Baobab Alley. After that, enjoy a short city tour of Morondava, once the center of the Sakalava kingdom. Later, drive back to Antsirabe, passing through villages along the way. You will arrive in Antsirabe by late afternoon and check in at your hotel.

Day 8: Antsirabe City Tour & Return to Antananarivo

After breakfast, enjoy a city tour by rickshaw and visit workshops where locals make jewelry from zebu horn and toys from tin cans. Then head back to Antananarivo, stopping at Ambatolampy to see the metalwork village, where cast aluminum souvenirs are sold. On arrival in Tana, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 9: Travel to Tamatave & Visit Madagascar Exotic

After breakfast, take the National 2 Road to Tamatave. You will stop at Madagascar Exotic, a farm that breeds endemic butterflies, chameleons, and reptiles threatened by habitat loss. In the evening, enjoy a night walk with a local guide.

Day 10: Full-Day Visit to Andasibe National Park

Visit Andasibe National Park, home to the Indri-Indri, the largest lemur species. The park also has 11 other types of lemurs, plus chameleons and birds. The forest is rich with orchids, rosewood, and medicinal plants. In the afternoon, visit the Vakona Private Reserve.

Day 11: Return to Antananarivo from the Rain-forest

After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest and return to Antananarivo. Enjoy the green views and thick forests along the way. Once back in the city, you will check in at a hotel near the airport.

Day 12: Fly to Nosy Be & Beach Relaxation

After breakfast and depending on your domestic flight schedule, enjoy a short city tour before transferring to the airport. You will then fly to Nosy Be. On arrival, your guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Day 13: Nosy Tanikely Marine Park & Nosy Komba Tour

Today, visit Nosy Tanikely Marine Park and Nosy Komba. Nosy Komba is a small island with clear water, a forest, and a beach. You can snorkel and see fish like dolphins, sharks, whales, pufferfish, and turtles. You can also relax on the beach or climb to the lighthouse for views and lemurs. Nosy Komba is famous for its black lemurs and local crafts, especially embroidery in Ambarovato village.

Day 14: Visit Nosy Iranja & Turtle Watching

Visit Nosy Iranja, a peaceful place known for sea turtles that lay eggs almost daily. You can walk through the forest to a quiet beach. If you want to fish, you can explore around Iranja Kelly and Iranja, connected by a white sandbar.

Day 15: Leisure Day on Nosy Be Island

Spend the day at your leisure. Nosy Be means “Big Island,” and you can enjoy the calm beach or join optional activities offered by your hotel. You can also just relax at your hotel.

Day 16: Departure & Transfer to Airport

Enjoy your last morning in Madagascar at your own pace, depending on your international flight schedule. Later, you will be transferred to the airport to check in for your flight, saying farewell to Madagascar. We hope you have enjoyed your trip!
