Detailed 16-Day Madagascar Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo and Hotel Transfer

Welcome to Antananarivo. On arrival at Ivato Airport, your representative will meet you and transfer you to a hotel near the airport, where you can relax and take in views of the capital city.

Day 2: Drive to Miandrivazo via Ambatolampy and Antsirabe

After breakfast, travel to Miandrivazo, passing through Ambatolampy, known for its pot workshop and metal foundry. Stop briefly to visit, then continue through Antsirabe to Miandrivazo, known for its warm weather and local Malagasy community.

Day 3: Travel to Morondava and Night Walk in Kirindy Forest

Travel from Miandrivazo to Morondava, meeting the Sakalava people and seeing the baobab trees, passing through small villages along the way. Kirindy Forest, near Morondava, is home to Madagascar’s largest carnivore, the fossa. Enjoy a night walk to see wildlife in the reserve.

Day 4: Overland Journey to Bekopaka and Tsiribihina River Crossing

After breakfast, leave for Bekopaka. The road is rough, but the journey is worth it. Reach Tsimafana, where you cross the Tsiribihina River by ferry, arriving at Bekopaka in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Explore Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

Visit Tsingy de Bemaraha, a limestone forest listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with sharp limestone peaks forming a maze of gaps and gorges. In the afternoon, relax or explore more on your own, or take an optional tour to the Little Tsingy with a boat trip through the river gorge to see caves and Sakalava tombs.

Day 6: Return to Morondava with Sunset at Baobab Alley

After breakfast, travel back to Morondava, crossing the Tsiribihina River again. In the evening, stop at the Alley of Baobabs at sunset for photos of the trees, then continue to Morondava.

Day 7: Sunrise at Baobab Alley and Drive to Antsirabe

Start early with sunrise at Baobab Alley, then enjoy a short city tour of Morondava, once the center of the Sakalava kingdom. Drive back to Antsirabe, passing villages along the way, arriving by late afternoon to check in at your hotel.

Day 8: Antsirabe City Tour and Return to Antananarivo

After breakfast, enjoy a city tour by rickshaw and visit workshops where locals make jewelry from zebu horn and toys from tin cans. Head back to Antananarivo, stopping at Ambatolampy to see the metalwork village, known for its cast aluminum souvenirs. On arrival in Tana, transfer to your hotel.

Day 9: Travel to Tamatave and Visit Madagascar Exotic

After breakfast, take National Road 2 to Tamatave, stopping at Madagascar Exotic, a farm that breeds endemic butterflies, chameleons, and reptiles threatened by habitat loss. In the evening, join a night walk with a local guide.

Day 10: Full Day Visit to Andasibe National Park

Visit Andasibe National Park, home to the indri-indri, the largest lemur species, along with 11 other lemur types, chameleons, and birds. The forest has orchids, rosewood, and medicinal plants. In the afternoon, visit the Vakona Private Reserve.

Day 11: Return to Antananarivo from the Rainforest

After breakfast, leave the rainforest and return to Antananarivo, enjoying the green views and thick forest along the way. On arrival in the city, check in at a hotel near the airport.

Day 12: Fly to Nosy Be and Beach Relaxation

After breakfast and depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a short city tour before transferring to the airport for your flight to Nosy Be. On arrival, your guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel to relax.

Day 13: Nosy Tanikely Marine Park and Nosy Komba Tour

Visit Nosy Tanikely Marine Park and Nosy Komba, a small island with clear water, forest, and beach. Snorkel to see fish, dolphins, sharks, whales, pufferfish, and turtles, or relax on the beach or climb to the lighthouse for views and lemurs. Nosy Komba is known for its black lemurs and local crafts, especially embroidery in Ambarovato village.

Day 14: Visit Nosy Iranja and Turtle Watching

Visit Nosy Iranja, known for sea turtles that lay eggs almost daily. Walk through the forest to a quiet beach, or explore around Iranja Kelly and Iranja, connected by a white sandbar, for fishing.

Day 15: Leisure Day on Nosy Be Island

Spend the day at your leisure. Nosy Be means “Big Island,” and you can enjoy the calm beach or join optional activities offered by your hotel.

Day 16: Departure and Transfer to Airport

Enjoy your last morning in Madagascar at your own pace, depending on your flight schedule. Transfer to the airport to check in for your flight home.
