Detailed 10-Day Andringitra Trekking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo & Hotel Transfer
You will arrive at Antananarivo Airport (Tana), where you will meet our local team. They will transfer you safely to your hotel. Tana is Madagascar’s capital, full of history, culture, and some wildlife viewing options.
There are also excellent markets and shops offering crafts and products from across the country at good prices.
Day 2: Drive to Ambositra via Antsirabe
After breakfast, you will take a road transfer to Antsirabe along National Road 7. You will pass through Ambatolampy, a city known for its aluminum foundries, which you will visit on your return.
Continuing your journey, you will cross the Highlands region, famous for its rice terraces, colorful crops, and traditional red brick houses. You will continue south to Ambositra, where you will stay overnight.
Day 3: Explore Ambositra & Travel to Ambalavao
In the morning, you will visit Ambositra’s local markets and the Zafimaniry artisans’ workshops. After some time exploring, you will continue your journey to Fianarantsoa. The name means “place of good learning,” and you will see both the lower and upper town, connected by a steep hill.
You will then head to Ambalavao to visit a workshop where the famous Antemoro paper is made, followed by a visit to Anja Private Reserve, managed by the local community. After this full day, you will spend the night in Ambalavao.
Day 4: Start Trekking – Hike to Antantsoa Campsite
Early in the morning, you will travel by car to Namoly, the starting point of your trek. From there, you will walk for about two hours to reach your first campsite, Antantsoa.
Here, you will camp overnight in tents. The area is known for its rice terraces, which add beauty to the landscape.
Day 5: Trek to Andriampotsy Campsite
Today’s trek will be more challenging as you climb higher into Andringitra. Your local guides and porters will explain the day’s plan. Along the way, you will see caves, sacred waterfalls, thick forests, and shrubs, and you can take a dip in a natural pool. You will arrive at Andriampotsy, where you will camp overnight.
Day 6: Climb Pic Boby & Camp at Iantaranomby
You will start early to climb Pic Boby, the second-highest peak in Madagascar. You will walk through rocky landscapes that look like another world.
From the top, you will enjoy a wide view of the whole region, and if the weather is clear, you might see the Isalo Massif in the distance.
After the climb, you will pass through a palm forest and arrive at Iantaranomby campsite by a river, where you can cool off. You will sleep in tents here.
Day 7: Descend to Tsaranoro Valley & Stay at Camp Catta
After breakfast, you will hike down to the Tsaranoro Valley, where you can see Pachypodium plants, different aloe species, and lizards. The trail goes through villages where the Betsileo and Bara cultures meet.
From the village of Morarano, you will cross the valley and arrive at Camp Catta Hotel, where you will stay. You can spend the afternoon exploring the forests of the Tsaranoro Valley.
Day 8: Return Drive to Antsirabe
After breakfast, you will meet your driver and return to Antsirabe through Fianarantsoa and Ambositra. Antsirabe, meaning “place of much salt,” is Madagascar’s third-largest city.
It is known for its spa, volcanic surroundings, fresh air, and cool climate.
Day 9: City Tour of Antsirabe & Drive to Antananarivo
After breakfast, you will take a city tour by rickshaw and visit local workshops that make crafts such as jewelry from zebu horn and toys from recycled tin cans.
Later, you will drive back to Antananarivo, stopping in Ambatolampy to visit a metalwork village where aluminum items are made. You will then continue to Tana and check in at your hotel.
Day 10: Final City Tour & Departure
On your last day, you will enjoy breakfast before taking a short city tour of Antananarivo by car. Afterward, you will visit the colorful local markets to buy souvenirs.
Finally, you will be transferred to the international airport to check in for your flight home, carrying wonderful memories to share with your family and friends.
