Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is one of the main chimpanzee habitats in Uganda. The island is about 23 kilometers from Entebbe and can only be reached by boat.
The sanctuary is home to around 42 rescued orphaned chimpanzees, and this Uganda tour gives you the chance to see and interact with them.

Detailed 3-Day Ngamba Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
After breakfast, meet your safari guide and driver who will take you to the landing site to board a boat to Ngamba Island. The boat ride takes a few hours across Lake Victoria. On arrival, check in, have lunch, and then go for your first chimpanzee viewing session.
Here you will watch the orphaned chimps being fed and playing in their natural environment. You can help feed them fruits while learning about their behavior and daily life. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Ngamba Island Forest Walk
After an early breakfast, set out for a guided forest walk on the island. Before this activity, you must ensure you are up to date with the required vaccinations, as you will get very close to the chimps. Some may tug at your clothes, hold your hand, or even climb on your shoulders.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then spend the afternoon relaxing or take a short nature walk around the island to enjoy more wildlife and bird-life. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer Back to Entebbe
On the last day, take a boat ride back to Entebbe. Depending on your schedule, you may visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) or tour the Entebbe Botanical Gardens before drop-off.
You will then be transferred either to the airport for your departure flight or to your accommodation in Entebbe for an overnight stay.
