Detailed 9-Day North Madagascar Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo & Hotel Transfer
Upon arrival, you will be met and welcomed by your English-speaking guide, who will transfer you to your hotel near the airport. After checking in, you can relax and refresh.
The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Madagascar welcomes you!
Day 2: Fly to Northern Madagascar & City Tour
After a good breakfast, you will be transferred to Antananarivo airport for your flight to the northern part of Madagascar. When you land, the friendly Antakarana people will greet you warmly.
Your tour starts with a city visit, and afterward, you’ll check in to your hotel and have free time to relax.
Day 3: Visit the Red Tsingy & Travel to Ankarana
In the morning, you will travel through scenic landscapes and sandy tracks to reach the Red Tsingy, which means “pointed rock.” This area looks like a different world, with tall rock formations shaped by the wind and rain in shades of yellow and red. Later, you’ll continue your journey to Ankarana, where you’ll stay overnight.
Day 4: Explore Ankarana National Park
After breakfast, you will head to Ankarana National Park for a day of exploring. You will walk through rainforests filled with tall trees and thick vegetation and see baobabs along the Tsingy Trail and the Lost Rivers Trail.
A highlight is the Bat Cave, where you can spot lemurs, black parrots, and of course, bats. The trail is not too difficult but has some steep spots to keep it exciting.
Day 5: Travel to Ankify with Stop at Millot Plantation
Today you will travel to Ankify. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Millot Plantation, where you can learn about how cocoa is grown and processed. You’ll also see how local plants like ylang-ylang, vetiver, patchouli, and palma rosa are used to make perfumes. Afterward, you will continue your drive to Ankify, your destination for the night.
Day 6: Nosy Komba & Nosy Tanikely Island Tour
After breakfast, you will leave your hotel and head to the port, where a speedboat will take you to Nosy Komba, the second largest island after Nosy Be. You’ll visit a fishing village with traditional boats and a local market selling embroidery and wood crafts.
Next, you’ll stop at a mini park to see boa constrictors, chameleons, and tortoises, and you can meet the Macaco lemur, which may even climb onto your shoulder. Later, you’ll go to Nosy Tanikely, a protected underwater reserve, where you can snorkel and see colorful coral, fish, sea turtles, and more.
You’ll also visit the lighthouse and look for dogfish and lemurs in the trees. A picnic lunch will be served before heading back to the hotel in the afternoon.
Day 7-8: Leisure Days at Nosy Be
You have two full days to enjoy as you like. You can relax at the beach, go diving, or ride a bike along the wild coast. Nosy Be offers many activities, and you can choose how to spend your time.
Day 9: Departure from Madagascar
Today is the last day of your northern Madagascar adventure. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home, taking with you special memories and experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime.
