Detailed 6-Day Madagascar Honeymoon Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo & Relax at Maison Gallieni
When you land at Ivato International Airport, you will be met and welcomed by an English-speaking guide who will transfer you safely to Maison Gallieni, where you will spend one night. You can relax and unwind or explore the lovely city of Antananarivo, known as ‘Tana.’
The mansion was built in 1879 on the site of a granite quarry and once housed Madagascar’s first bank. Set on a hill, it offers wonderful views of the city. This afternoon, you can relax at the hotel, swim in the pool, or head out to explore Tana.
Day 2: Fly to Anjajavy & Night Walk in the Forest
Start your day with an early breakfast before your transfer to Ivato International Airport for your domestic flight to Anjajavy. A hotel representative will welcome you and drive you to Anjajavy Lodge on Madagascar’s northwest coast.
From your room’s balcony, you can gaze at the Indian Ocean and the nearby forests filled with lemurs, chameleons, and hummingbirds. In the evening, you can choose to join a night walk to see nocturnal animals like Coquerel’s sifakas, Danfoss’s mouse lemurs, Grewcock’s sportive lemur, Commerson’s leaf-nosed bat, and, if lucky, the elusive fossa, Madagascar’s largest predator.
Day 3: Explore Crab’s Path & Relax by the Beach
After breakfast, take a guided walk along the Crab’s Path (Chemin des Crabes). You’ll see ancient baobabs, hairy crabs, and many birds such as the bright red fody, Souimanga sunbird, paradise flycatcher, Madagascar fish eagle, crested ibis, and the rare Madagascar sacred ibis.
You’ll also visit a cave where you can spot stalactites, sharks’ teeth, and a fossilized lemur skull. Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch and spend your afternoon relaxing by the infinity pool or exploring private coves near the lodge.
Day 4: Walk King’s Alley & Giant’s Causeway
After breakfast, enjoy a walk along the King’s Alley and Giant’s Causeway, lined with ancient baobab trees and Tsingy rock formations. You’ll see Coquerel’s sifakas, which leap across the ground like small kangaroos, and other lemurs like the common brown lemur.
These lemurs often roam freely around the lodge gardens. After your walk, return to the hotel for a buffet lunch surrounded by beautiful green vegetation. Watch the lively birdlife, including Souimanga sunbirds and Malagasy kingfishers. You might also see frogs, chameleons, and lemurs leaping through the trees.
Day 5: Choose Your Own Adventure or Relaxation
Today is yours to choose from many activities, both on land and water. You can visit nearby islands and nature reserves, go scuba diving, snorkeling, quad biking, or fishing. Visit the Sakalava Cave to see Madagascar bats among the stalagmites and stalactites, or enjoy a romantic picnic on a quiet beach along the Anjajavy Peninsula.
You can also visit Antafiamoara to meet the giant tortoises reintroduced to the reserve in 2018, or explore the nearby villages of Anjajavy and Ambodro Ampasy and visit local markets filled with handmade crafts.
Day 6: Return to Antananarivo & Departure
Today marks the end of your Madagascar honeymoon. After an early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the airport for your charter flight back to Antananarivo.
On arrival, a staff member will assist you in boarding your international flight home. You will leave Madagascar with wonderful memories of its nature and wildlife that will stay with you forever.
