Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Our guide will pick you up at Kigali International Airport and transfer you to Musanze, north of Rwanda. Volcanoes National Park, the only home of Rwanda gorillas, is found in Musanze. When you arrive, you will retire at your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking
Wake up early in the morning and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing. It is during this briefing where they will explain the rules and regulations of mountain gorilla trekking and assign you to random gorilla groups to trek.
Afterward, you will be accompanied by an armed safari ranger as you venture into the jungles of Volcanoes National Park to search for mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking may last from 2 up to 8 hours, depending on how long it takes to locate the gorillas.
However, nowadays park rangers locate the gorillas beforehand and then guide you in the right direction, saving a lot of time. When you encounter the gorillas, you have an hour to spend observing them.
Afterward, you will return to the park headquarters to receive your respective gorilla tracking certificates showing the mountain gorilla family you tracked.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking
Today, you will follow the same schedule as the previous day but will meet a different mountain gorilla family.
Day 4: Third Gorilla Trekking
Again, you will follow the same schedule as the previous day but will meet a different mountain gorilla family.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and Departure
Today, you will leave your lodge in the afternoon or evening, depending on your preference after having enough rest, and transfer to Kigali International Airport to catch your departure flight.
