Detailed Uganda Gorilla Trekking and Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Uganda
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our representative and driver guide will meet you with a briefing on the trip. Continue to your hotel in Kampala for meals, relaxation, and overnight stay.
Day 2: Connect to Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, drive to Kibale Forest National Park, passing tea estates and rock kopjes along the way. Have lunch in Fort Portal Town, then join a guided tour through the Amabere ga Nyinamwiru Caves and nearby waterfalls.
Continue with a hike through the crater lake area before heading to Kibale Forest National Park for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest, Then Connect to Queen Elizabeth National Park
At 6 am, have breakfast, then head to Kanyanchu Tourism Center for registration and a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. Park rangers will guide you through the rainforest, home to over 13 primate species, 375 bird species, and 300 tree species.
The trek lasts 2 to 5 hours, including an hour observing the chimps’ daily activities. Transfer to your lodge for lunch, then continue on a 3 to 4 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, followed by a night game drive to see serval cats, civets, leopards, lions, spotted hyenas, and other nocturnal wildlife.
Day 4: Connect to Bwindi National Park via Ishasha Sector
After breakfast, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, stopping at the Ishasha sector for a chance to see the tree-climbing lions found only in Uganda and Tanzania. Continue to Bwindi, with a lunch stop at Savannah Resort along the way.
Day 5: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Optional Batwa Cultural Tour
After breakfast, gather at the park headquarters for a briefing at 7 am. Bwindi’s rugged terrain makes for a more demanding trek than other gorilla destinations.
Spend an hour with the gorillas as they forage, socialize, and rest. Return to the lodge for the afternoon at leisure, with an optional Batwa Cultural Tour in the evening to learn about the traditions of the forest’s original inhabitants. Dinner and overnight stay at the same lodge.
Day 6: Connect to Kigali or Entebbe International Airport for a Flight to Tanzania
After breakfast, drive to Kigali International Airport (4 to 5 hours) or Entebbe International Airport (8 to 9 hours) for a connecting flight to Kilimanjaro Airport. Transfer to Arusha Town for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Drive from Arusha Town to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park through the Mto Wa Mbu community for a cultural stop along the way. In the park, look for zebras, cheetahs, olive baboons, Masai giraffes, spotted hyenas, elephants, hippos, leopards, wildebeests, and the tree-climbing lions.
The lake also attracts bird species such as flamingos, weavers, herons, and eagles. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Connect to Serengeti National Park
Travel to Serengeti National Park, home to the annual wildebeest migration involving over 1.5 million wildebeests, 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 gazelles. The park also has crocodiles, hippos, the Big Five, kobs, warthogs, waterbucks, elands, hyenas, and cheetahs.
Join an evening game drive, then return for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 9: Whole Day Serengeti National Park Tour
After breakfast, drive through the Serengeti’s plains, spotting lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and giraffes. Break for lunch at your lodge, then continue with a second game drive or visit a Masai community to learn about their lifestyle and traditions.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with an optional stop at Olduvai Gorge, a key site in the discovery of early human fossils by Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey.
Enjoy a packed lunch, then spend the afternoon exploring Ngorongoro Crater, home to hippos, zebras, gazelles, warthogs, cape buffaloes, and elephants. Dinner and overnight stay at a lodge or tented camp in the conservation area.
Day 11: Return to Arusha City for Departure
Leave Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a game drive, then transfer to a hotel in Arusha or the airport, marking the end of your safari.
