Detailed Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Maasai Mara Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe, Uganda
Your private safari driver will pick you up from the Airport or any other location in Entebbe for a drive to Kampala Hotel for meals and overnight stay. Depending on the time of arrival, you may transverse the City of Kampala, exploring the top historical and cultural sites.
Day 2: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, via Masaka and Mbarara Towns
Be picked from your Hotel in Kampala for a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after a wonderful breakfast, with stopovers at the Uganda Equator for photography and another in Mbarara Town for lunch.
Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: The unforgettable day of trekking mountain gorillas in Bwindi forest
A continental breakfast will be served early at the lodge and your lunch will be packed as well. Be at the park headquarters by 7:00am for briefing by park wardens who will provide information on the highlights of the gorilla trek, guidelines of trekking and being in their presence then later begin the 1-6 hours’ hike.
You will be trekking through densely forested and misty hills of Bwindi before finally encountering mountain gorillas camouflaged in the lush vegetation. Once you get them, you are allowed to spend one hour observing and taking photos as you sit, stand or squat 7 meters away. On finalizing this magical encounter, find a nice spot to enjoy your packed lunch and drive back to the lodge for relaxation for the remainder of the afternoon.
In the evening head for a village/community walk to visit the Batwa pygmies. While here, you will be entertained in their invigorating cultural dances, visit the traditional herbalist to see the different plants, roots and barks used for treating common ailments, see how they make fire from sticks and many other activities.
Your time with the Batwa is one of the most unforgettable moments but you will have to bid farewell and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Drive to Entebbe Airport for a flight to Masai Mara National Reserve
Have breakfast and check-out of your Bwindi Lodge for a drive to Entebbe airport, from where you will take a flight to Masai Mara National Reserve. Upon landing, your Kenyan-based private safari driver will meet you, hand-over itinerary with different schedules and transfer to your lodge or tented camp for lunch.
Day 5: First day of game viewing in Masai Mara National Reserve
Be up before sunrise for breakfast and later embark on a morning game drive where you will see numerous nocturnal wildlife species such as lions, African wild dogs, serval cats, spotted hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, caracals, striped hyenas, civets in addition to other animals such as elephants, Masai giraffes, wildebeests, Burchell’s zebras, bushbucks, Cape buffaloes, Hippos, Topis, Defassa waterbucks, Oribis, warthogs, Common elands, Klipspringers, Roan antelopes, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles and many others. After your first phase of the game drive, return back to the lodge for a lunch buffet.
Later be driven to the Mara River, an excellent wildlife viewing spot in Masai Mara National Reserve. This is where the climax of the annual wildebeest migration is watched as millions of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles battle out with the savage crocodiles while crossing the River. This is the sight you wouldn’t wish to miss at whatever cost. After your wildlife viewing experience around the Mara River, retreat to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Another full day in Masai Mara National Reserve
You have the second day to explore the beauty of Masai Mara National Reserve, through a walking safari, Hot air balloon safari as well as afternoon visit to the nearby Masai Village. Any activity you choose in the morning will introduce you to the rich wildlife diversity of this National Reserve, even those missed the previous days.
In the afternoon, take a walk through the Masai villages and from here, you will agree that Kenya is indeed a cultural melting pot. In the evening be dropped-off at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Drop-off at the airport or hotel in Nairobi City
Breakfast and embark on a return journey to Nairobi City with en-route lunch and be dropped-off at the Hotel or Airport. This marks the end of your 7 days Bwindi Gorillas & Masai Mara Safari.
