Detailed 7 Days Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking & Zanzibar Beach Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from the City of Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Breakfast and later meet up with your driver guide within any location in Kigali for transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Your 2-3 hours’ journey comes after the short Kigali city excursion to explore the top tourist sites of the City such as the local markets, Gisozi genocide memorial site, Museums, Craft Markets and many others.
Have lunch and begin the 2-3 hours’ drive to Volcanoes National Park in Northwestern Rwanda to check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking & visit to Gorilla Guardian village
Enjoy a hefty breakfast, prepare yourself and later assemble at Kinigi Park Headquarters for a briefing from the gorilla trekking team from Volcanoes National Park. You will be registered and taken through the important trekking guidelines and later be allocated a habituated gorilla group as well as Ranger guide.
Your trek is unpredictable as it may last 1-4 hours depending on the movement of gorillas, pace of hiking and terrain of their habitat. Once you find the allocated gorilla group, the guide will allow you to spend strictly one hour with them.
Return back to the Lodge for lunch and relax as you wait for your visit to the Gorilla Guardian Village, in the late afternoon. During this marvelous cultural experience, expect to learn about their lifestyles, be entertained in music and dances performances and many others. Retreat from this cultural experience to unwind, dine and spend overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Embark on a journey to Kigali International Airport and fly to Zanzibar
After an early morning breakfast, check out of the lodge in the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park and drive back to Kigali City. Take a flight to Zanzibar Island where you will meet your driver guide who will take you to a Hotel in Zanzibar’s Stone Town.
Day 4: Explore the jaw-dropping Zanzibar Archipelago
Start your day with breakfast and choose to either be driven to the pristine sandy beach for several activities that include Scuba diving, cycling and beach sports or go shopping/spice tour in Stone Town. By the time you set foot at Zanzibar Island, expect to have a blast and fun-filled experience.
Zanzibar is made up of small Islands and popular for its white sandy beaches, interesting history, culture and your tour will also lead to the labyrinth of streets in Stone Town to explore the ruins of Slave Trade as well as the ancient Sultan Palaces.
Day 5: Leave Stone Town for Nungwi Beach
After breakfast, head for a tour around Nungwi Beach for its beautiful white sandy beaches, exotic fauna and flora species and well as its turquoise blue waters. While on your tour of this amazing tourist site, get a chance to sail in a traditional dhow to any of the reefs as well as a chance to view the marine life that thrive in the corals of Zanzibar.
Day 6: Boat ride to Changuu Island
Have breakfast and take a boat ride from Stone Town to Changuu Private Island (Prison Island), a small Paradise on Earth known for sheltering giant tortoises. Spend your day discovering its rich history and return back to your Lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Connect to Zanzibar Airport and departure
After an amazing breakfast, check out of the hotel for a drive to Zanzibar Airport to catch up with your flight to the next destination.
