Starting in Uganda and ending in Tanzania, the 21 Days East African Primates & Wildlife Viewing Tour is a 3-weeks’ Combined East Africa Safari taking you through Uganda’s top tourist sites-Murchison falls, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable and Kibale Forest National Parks, Rwanda to explore Volcanoes National Park, Kenya to visit top tourist destinations – Amboseli National Park and Masai Mara National Reserve then Tanzania to explore Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Detailed 21 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda, through Entebbe International Airport

On this day you arrive in Uganda through Entebbe International Airport and head to a Hotel in Kampala for your meals, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kampala-Murchison falls National Park

Leaving Kampala, we hit the road northwards to through small roadside villages and markets as well as verdant countryside. This 6-7 hours’ journey takes us to the magnificent Murchison falls National Park to have a view of the majestic Murchison falls and numerous wildlife species.

Murchison falls National Park extends for over 3840 square kilometers and is one of the country’s greatest Conservation Areas with high concentrations of wildlife and bird species.

The Nile River flows through this Park and at some point plunges through a narrow gorge of 7 meters creating the phenomenal Murchison falls. The booked Lodge obviously overlooks the River and definitely expect the best views.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise

This morning is for undertaking the game viewing excursion through the vast savannah plains of Murchison falls National Park. On-board an open vehicle drive through the Park in search of the animals especially Rothschild giraffes, Common warthogs, Cape buffaloes, lions, Uganda Kobs, African bush elephants, Topis and Oribis as well as bird species that make this Park outstanding.

In the afternoon embark on a boat cruise along the Nile to the bottom of the thundering falls where high concentration of giant Hippos and Nile crocodiles as well as elephants, Uganda Kobs and Cape buffaloes can be sighted.

Also expect a wide range of water and wetland-dwelling bird species such as shoebill storks, Kingfishers, African fish eagles, African skimmers, cormorants, Herons and many others.

At sunset retire from this activity and return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Out of Murchison falls National Park today we proceed to the next Ugandan destination in your itinerary; Kibale Forest National Park. The lush countryside will welcome you with smiles from locals and take a Lunch break in Fort Portal Town. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Safari Lodge in Kibale Forest National Park.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

This morning we venture into the juggles of Kibale National Park to see the Chimpanzees. This Park boasts of the highest primates’ diversity and concentration in the African Continent with over 13 species calling the borders of this 795-square kilometer destination home.

Trek one of the habituated chimpanzee troops during the morning session beginning at 7am with briefing and actual trek starting at 8am.

In the afternoon undertake a brief walk through the lush Bigodi wetlands where over 200 species of birds including Great blue Turaco, Papyrus gonolek, Emerald Cuckoo, Black and white Casqued hornbills, sunbirds and many others.

Also expect to see several primate species during the walk through this wetland and depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. This journey lasts 3-4 hours and involves arriving there late evening.

Continue to your Lodge with a night game drive and immediately check-in for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Morning game dive through the northern plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park then back to the Lodge for breakfast. With a Lunch Box drive southwards of the Park towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with a stop at Ishasha sector to see the majestic tree climbing lions. In the evening you will be ushered into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where you will enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is haven to over half the World’s remaining mountain gorilla population of 1063 individuals. On this day you will trek one of the habituated gorilla groups in the Park, for 1-6 hours through rugged terrains, heavily forested slopes and high elevations. The trek is undeniably physically demanding but the feel of meeting face to face with the mountain gorillas makes treks worthwhile. The mountain gorillas are the main focus during this trek but other residents of the Park such as chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, forest elephants and birds can also be encountered.

Lunch and travel to Volcanoes National Park via Katuna or Cyanika border points. Transverse the beautiful terraced hillsides, vast tea or banana plantations and cultivated farmlands. Your dinner and overnight stay will be in the north-west part of Rwanda-in the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park.  

Day 8: 2nd Gorilla Trekking in Parc National Des Vulcans, Rwanda

Breakfast and drive to Kinigi Park Headquarters for briefing by the Park rangers before beginning your second gorilla trek. Trekking for the mountain gorillas through the jungles of Parc National Des Volcans lasts 1-4 hours before they are finally located.

Visitors are limited to one hour with the habituated gorilla group then return back to the lodge for lunch.

Enjoy your afternoon at leisure – Gorilla Guardian Village tour or just lounging by the Lodge to relax your mind and prepare for the next day’s activities.

Day 9: Drive to Kigali Airport for a flight to Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Kenya

On this day we leave Rwanda for Kenya. Drive from Volcanoes National Park to Kigali City where you undertake a brief City excursion then take a flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya.

Meet your safari driver at the Airport, be briefed about destinations to be explored during your time in Kenya. Check-in at a Hotel in Nairobi City for a wonderful meal, refreshment, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Nairobi City – Masai Mara National Reserve

This morning we depart for Masai Mara National Reserve and the journey takes 5-6 hours through the beautiful Great Rift Valley wall. Have Lunch on arrival and rest for the remainder of the afternoon.

Have an early dinner and embark on a night game drive through Masai Mara National Reserve where nocturnal wildlife species such as cheetahs, bat-eared foxes, Aardwolf, serval cats, lions, spotted hyenas, civets, African wild cats, leopards, Caracals, Genets, Mongoose, Bats, African wild dogs, Aardvarks and many others. Retire from the activity and proceed to your Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most popular tourist destination and is widely known for the annual wildebeest migration. In the morning have breakfast and head for the game drive through its sweeping plains to spot African bush elephants, Cape buffaloes, warthogs, Defassa waterbucks, Topis, Gnu, Wildebeests, Rhinos, Klipspringers, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, Burchell’s zebras, Reedbucks, lion, Ostriches, Rhinos, Sable antelopes, Oribis, Greater and lesser kudu, Impalas, Hyrax, Giant forest hogs, Jackson’s hartebeests, bushbucks, Dik-dik and many others.

 After this wildlife-filled game drive, enjoy your packed Lunch and drive to Mara River where Nile crocodiles and Hippos will be seen. This River is also known for hosting the most breathtaking wildlife encounter-Wildebeest River crossing while battling Crocodiles and other predators on the banks. What a perfect way to end the day!

Day 12: Transfer to Nairobi City

Have the last game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve while exiting and have Lunch along the way. Settle-in at the booked Lodge and relax for the rest of the day.

Day 13: Transfer to Amboseli National Park for night game drive

On this day we drive southwards from Nairobi City to Amboseli National Park, another popular tourist site in Kenya. This Kenyan National Park is known for two things – high populations of huge free ranging elephants as well as the spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the neighboring Tanzania. Check-in on arrival and have Lunch.

Day 14: Full day in Amboseli National Park

Spend the whole day exploring Amboseli National Park in game drives through the vast savannah grasslands in open-roof vehicles. Encounter the large herds of elephants in addition to Cape buffaloes, Oryx, Burchell’s zebras, wildebeests, Hippos, Gerenuk, duikers, Rothschild giraffes, bushbucks, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas and wide array of bird species. Lunch will be served at the Lodge on completing the 3-4 hours game drive through Amboseli National Park.

In the afternoon explore the Masai village to learn about the unique culture of the people, community birding, their exciting dance performances, spectacular building designs and many others. Spend overnight and enjoy dinner within one of the comfortable Lodges in the Amboseli National Park wilderness.

Day 15: Amboseli National Park Kenya-Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania

Breakfast and leave Amboseli National Park for your next safari destination, via Namanga border post to Arusha. Lunch within the Town of Arusha and in the afternoon drive to Lake Manyara National Park where you will just unwind at the booked Lodge.

Day 16: Full Day safari in Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara is one of the smallest Parks in Tanzania but very endowed. The Lake, from which the Park was named and other surrounding places shelter over 400 species. During your drive through this Park, you will see zebras, lesser and greater flamingos, pelicans, Hippos, Impalas, Bush elephants, warthogs, Cape buffaloes, Olive baboons, Defassa waterbucks, Rothschild giraffes, Gazelles, Hippos, wildebeests, Kudu, leopards, bushbucks, spotted hyenas, grey-crowned cranes and most interestingly the majestic tree climbing lions.

In the afternoon you will undertake a boat ride on Lake Manyara where over 100 species of birds will be encountered in a single trip.

Day 17: Drive to Serengeti National Park

This morning we start the day with breakfast and entre Serengeti National Park, another excellent game viewing destination in Tanzania. This Park is one of Africa’s best safari destinations and for any species of game you ever desired to see, they are found in this tourist site. One of the magical wildlife migrations (annual wildebeest migration) is hosted in Serengeti National Park.

Day 18: Serengeti National Park Game Safari

Have breakfast and day a whole day of wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park. Yu will come across Hippos, lions, leopards, Thomson’s gazelles, cheetahs, impalas, bush elephants, zebras, wildebeests, Defassa waterbucks and many others. Get a chance to witness the annual wildebeest migration and be transferred to your place of stay for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 19: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area & Visit Olduvai Gorge

Another wonderful day of your 3 weeks’ safari begins with a sumptuous breakfast then head for a game drive that will introduce you to several big cats-lions, leopards and cheetahs chasing after their targets-impalas, Kobs and bushbucks.

Enjoy a delicious lunch and leave for Ngorongoro Conservation Area via the historical Olduvai Gorge. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay at one of the exquisite Safari Lodges or Tented Camps.

Day 20: Half day tour of Ngorongoro Conservation Area and connect to Arusha Town

Drive through Ngorongoro Conservation Area, then descend to the Crater floor where most wildlife species converge. You will find leopards, spotted hyenas, Hippos, Rhinos, lions, Bush elephants, jackals, Cape buffaloes, Defassa waterbucks, olive baboons, common elands, bushbucks and duikers. After this game drive return to the Lodge for Lunch and immediately proceed to Arusha Town. Your meals and overnight stay at a good Hotel in Arusha Town.

Day 21: Departure

Be served breakfast and transferred to Arusha Airport for the outbound flight.
