Detailed 12-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi City Tour

Your driver guide will meet and brief you on the 12-day adventure ahead. After the briefing, tour Nairobi city, visit the city museum and other attractions, then head to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, check out and drive to Samburu Reserve, enjoying scenic views, rolling hills, and captivating vegetation, with a lunch stopover along the way. Arrive at the lodge in the afternoon for a hearty lunch, then spend the evening relaxing or on a guided nature walk. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Game Drives and Cultural Adventure

Set off for a 3 to 4 hour game drive in Samburu Reserve, home to over 75 mammal species along with birds and primates. Look out for Grevy’s zebra, giraffes, impalas, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, cheetahs, and leopards.

After lunch, enjoy an evening cultural adventure with the Samburu people, who share dances, songs, and stories before you return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Samburu Game Reserve to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park, home to a large concentration of pink flamingos and several mammals. Enjoy views of rolling hills, plantations, and the Great Rift Valley along the way.

Arrive for a late lunch, followed by an evening birding experience and guided nature walk at the lake shores. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Game Drive and Bird Watching Experience

Enjoy breakfast, then embark on a rewarding game drive to see cheetahs, elephants, cape buffaloes, warthogs, giraffes, wild dogs, waterbucks, and lions. The drive lasts about 3 to 4 hours, followed by lunch.

After lunch, rest before bird watching at Lake Nakuru’s shores, home to flamingos, ostriches, and many other species. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Depart Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve

Depart for Masai Mara Reserve, an extension of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Enjoy a scenic 5 to 6 hour drive with a stopover at the Great Rift Valley for photos, then continue to Narok Centre for lunch before proceeding to the park with a sunset game drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Full Day Game Drive

After breakfast, embark on a full day game drive with lunch in the wild. Search for wildebeests, lions, cheetahs, jackals, cape buffaloes, hippos, zebras, and warthogs, along with primates such as olive baboons and monkeys.

Explore the Mara River, famous for the annual wildebeest migration where over 1,000,000 wildebeests, along with zebras and gazelles, cross from the Serengeti. Return to the lodge late in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Bird Watching and Cultural Adventure with the Maasai People

Depart the lodge early to catch birds leaving their nests and identify species such as ostriches, flamingos, and eagles. Return for a late breakfast and lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy a traditional experience with Maasai warriors, who share stories, dance, and welcome visitors into their manyattas. Dinner and overnight at sunset.

Day 9: Masai Mara National Reserve to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Amboseli National Park, driving through escarpments, plantations, and hills. Stop for lunch before a 2 to 3 hour drive on to the park.

Arrive at your lodge with chances to watch mammals, birds, and primates. Spend the evening relaxing or on a guided nature walk to see the sunset over Mount Kilimanjaro and elephant herds returning for the night.

Day 10: Full Day Game Drive

Start your morning with sunrise views against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Enjoy breakfast, then pack a picnic lunch for a rewarding game drive.

Encounter large herds of elephants, cape buffalo, wild dogs, warthogs, zebras, and wildebeests. Spend more than 3 to 4 hours game viewing until sunset before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Amboseli National Park to Nairobi National Park

Enjoy breakfast, then check out for a transfer to Nairobi National Park along a scenic drive through magnificent landscapes. Have lunch en route before arriving at the lodge for a sunset game drive, with a chance to spot lions, leopards, hyenas, and antelope species. Dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then a 3 to 4 hour game drive around Nairobi National Park, home to lions, wildebeests, elephants, and giraffes.

Check out for a transfer to Nairobi city, about 10km from the park, for a city tour and lunch before heading to the airport for your departure flight.
