Day 1: Flight to Gondar – Drive to Simien Mountains
You will arrive at Addis Bole International Airport, where our guide will welcome you and assist with check-in for your domestic flight to Gondar. Upon arrival, another team will meet you and drive you to the Simien Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When we arrive at the Simien Mountains, we will check into the lodge and then head out to explore the scenic escarpments. One of the highlights of this area is the Gelada baboons, also known as the “bleeding heart baboons”, which are endemic to Ethiopia and can be seen in large numbers. These baboons gather here because of the abundant vegetation, feeding on grass, herbs, roots, grasshoppers, and locusts.
After our exploration, we will head back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Trek from Sankaber to Geech
Today, we begin our hike from Sankaber, following a ridge that offers breathtaking views of the valleys below. The trail descends slightly into the valley, where we will get stunning views of the Jinbar River and its waterfalls.
We will then continue to Geech Village, where we will camp for the night.
Day 3: Trek from Geech to Imet Gogo to Siha Gorge to Keda Dit to Geech
After breakfast, we will continue our trek across the grassy plateau, which is home to the giant lobelia plant.
The hike to Imet Gogo takes about two hours, and from this viewpoint (3,926m above sea level), we will have a 360-degree panoramic view of the Simien Mountains.
We will have lunch at Siha Gorge before heading back to Geech for dinner and an overnight stay. If time allows, you may also take a sunset hike to Keda Dit.
Day 4: Trek from Geech to Innatye to Chennek
Today’s hike will take about seven hours, leading us through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Simien Mountains.
We will head southeast towards Innatye, passing through hazel forests before reaching the Innatye viewpoint. The locals refer to this place as “Mama Mia” because of its breathtaking views.
After lunch, we will continue towards Chennek, where we have a chance to see Walia ibex (endemic to Ethiopia) and Gelada baboons.
Day 5: Chennek to Gondar
After breakfast at the campsite, we will hike for about two hours to the summit of Bwahit, the second-highest peak in the Simien Mountains, standing at 4,430 meters above sea level.
After descending, we will drive back to Gondar, where you will take a flight back to Addis Ababa for your departure home.
