Day 1: Flight from Addis Ababa to Dire Dawa
We will take a flight from Addis Ababa to Dire Dawa, most likely with Ethiopian Airlines.
Upon arrival, we will make a brief stop at Kefira Market and visit the largest market on our way to Harar.
Harar has been an important Islamic cultural center for centuries. Here, we will visit the former home of French poet Arthur Rimbaud and learn about his works. We will also explore the National Museum and the Harari Museum.
Other attractions include the house of Ras Mekonnen, the father of Emperor Haile Selassie.
In the evening, you will have a chance to feed the hyenas, a tradition that has been practiced for many years to prevent hyenas from attacking livestock or entering homes in search of food.
Day 2: Explore Babile and the Valley of Marvels
This morning, your guide will drive you to Babile and the Valley of Marvels.
The Valley of Marvels is known for its stunning landscapes and uniquely balanced rock formations. We will take short hikes to learn about the geology and the formation processes of this area.
We will also visit Babile Township, which has a large market on Saturdays and a camel market on Mondays and Thursdays. You will have free time to explore the town at your own pace before returning to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Discover the Amazing Town of Dire Dawa
Today, we will explore the city of Dire Dawa, as it is the last day of our safari.
This old colonial town is home to a railway system built by the French. We will visit Kefira Market, the oldest market in the city, as well as other local markets.
You will also have the opportunity to taste Ethiopian local food and shop for souvenirs. The market experience will create lasting memories of your trip.
Later in the afternoon, we will drive back to Addis Ababa, where you will take your flight back home.
