Detailed 4-Day Simien Mountains Trekking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Fly from Addis Ababa to Gondar
Arrive at Addis Bole International Airport, where our guide will welcome you and check you in for your flight to Gondar. On arrival, another team will meet you and drive you to the Simien Mountains, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
After arriving, check into your lodge and explore the area. The escarpment is a good place to see baboons. This spot is called the “bleeding heart baboon” area, home to the Gelada baboon, found only in Ethiopia.
Large groups gather here thanks to plenty of herbs, grass, and roots to eat, along with insects like grasshoppers and locusts.
Day 2: Simien Mountains
In the morning, hike along the escarpments. The campsite sits in the Afro-Montane forest. A main highlight today is Jinbar Waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in the world.
Have a packed lunch here while taking in the views. Later, drive back to camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Simien Mountains
Drive to Chennek Campsite, at about 3,620 meters above sea level. Along the way, you may see Gelada baboons.
Climb Bwahit Pass, the second highest peak in the range, at about 4,200 meters above sea level. There is also a chance to see the Ethiopian wolf, an endangered species found only in Ethiopia.
Day 4: Simien Mountains to Addis Ababa
Wake up a little later and have breakfast. Before leaving, you may have time to see a few animals near the lodge.
Drive to Gondar and take your flight to Addis Ababa for your connecting flight home.
