The trip starts with a flight from Addis Ababa to Gondar. Upon arrival, travelers drive to the Simien Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see Gelada baboons. The next day, they hike along the escarpments and visit Jinbar Waterfall, one of the highest in the world.
On the third day, they drive to Chennek Campsite and climb Bwahit Pass, the second-highest peak, with a chance to see the endangered Ethiopian wolf.
On the last day, they return to Gondar for a flight back to Addis Ababa, where they prepare for their journey home.
Day 1: Fly from Addis Ababa to Gondar
You will arrive at Addis Bole International Airport, where our guide will welcome you. You will check in for your domestic flight to Gondar. Upon arrival, another team will meet you and drive you to the Simien Mountains.
The Simien Mountains are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. After arriving, you will check into the lodge and then explore this scenic area. The escarpment is a good place to see baboons. This spot is called the “bleeding heart baboon” area because it is home to the Gelada baboons, which are found only in Ethiopia. They can be seen in large numbers here because of the rich vegetation, as they feed on herbs, grass, and roots. They also eat insects like grasshoppers and locusts.
Day 2: Simien Mountains
In the morning, we will hike along the escarpments. The campsite is located in the Afro-Montane forest. One of the main attractions today is the Jinbar Waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in the world.
We will have our packed lunch here while enjoying the beautiful views of the area. Later, we will drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Simien Mountains
We will drive to the Chennek Campsite, which stands at about 3,620 meters above sea level. Along the way, we may see Gelada Monkeys.
We will then summit the Bwahit Pass, the second-highest peak in these mountain ranges, standing at about 4,200 meters above sea level. There is also a chance of seeing the Ethiopian wolf, which is endangered and found only in Ethiopia.
Day 4: Simien Mountains to Addis Ababa
We will wake up a little late and have breakfast. Before leaving, we may have time to see a few animals around the lodge.
We will then drive to Gondar and take our flight to Addis Ababa for our connecting flight home.
