On this 3-day Samburu National Park safari, travel to the northern part of Kenya. In the local Maa language, the word “Samburu” means “butterfly.” The park covers an area of 165 sq. km, bordered by the Ewaso Ng’iro River to the south and the Buffalo Springs Game Reserve.
Samburu is home to many plant and animal species, including the Somali ostrich, cheetahs, lions, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, reticulated giraffes, elephants, wild dogs, and baby oryx. With over 450 bird species, birdwatching with an expert ranger guide is an unforgettable experience.
This road trip through the countryside also offers a chance to observe the Samburu people and their way of life. Activities include game drives, camel trekking, and community visits. Pickup and drop-off are available in Nairobi or any agreed location.
Enjoy carefully selected accommodations, timely transfers, and ample rest time. From start to finish, all client requests are handled with care.
Day 1: Transfer to Samburu National Park
The drive from Nairobi takes about 5-6 hours via the Thika Superhighway, with views of beautiful landscapes, green plantations, and busy towns.
There will be a stop for sightseeing at notable points and a stop for lunch.
As you approach the reserve, observe the Samburu people dressed in traditional attire similar to that of the Maasai warriors.
Their warm smiles set the tone for the experiences ahead.
After arrival and check-in at the lodge, the driver-guide will arrange an evening activity: an hour-long camel tour on designated trails.
This tour brings you closer to nature, offering great photo opportunities and beautiful sunset views.
End the day with dinner and a restful night.
Day 2: Game Drive and Samburu Community Tour
Start the day at 06:00 with a sunrise game drive through the open savanna grasslands, led by an experienced ranger guide who will share insights about the park’s landscape, wildlife, and water bodies.
During this 3-4 hour session, you may see animals such as the Beisa oryx, waterbucks, Grant’s gazelles, warthogs, jackals, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, lions, elephants, Grevy’s zebra, leopards, impalas, olive baboons, bats, cheetahs, hyenas, klipspringers, elands, and, if lucky, the rare wild dogs and hippos.
After the game drive, enjoy a bush breakfast before returning to the lodge for lunch.
In the cool evening hours, the sounds of Samburu drums will welcome you to experience the culture of this well-known pastoralist community.
Enjoy a community walk, storytelling, and songs. Feel free to purchase locally made souvenirs to support the community.
Afterward, return to the lodge for dinner and a peaceful sleep.
Day 3: Departure
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the lodge. Say goodbye to your hosts and begin an exit game drive back to Nairobi.
The driver-guide will drop you off at the agreed location after a surprise stop along the way, with lunch served en route.
