Detailed 13-Day Kilimanjaro, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Our company representative will meet and pick you up from the airport on arrival, then drive you to your hotel in Arusha. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After breakfast, our representative will drive you to Marangu Gate for registration before starting your climb. Begin your ascent along a narrow trail through Kilimanjaro’s rainforest, with fog, rain, mud, and wildlife such as monkeys along the way.
Halfway through, stop for lunch, then continue through the forest to Mandara Hut, your first sleepover spot. Dinner and overnight at the hut.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast, continue your ascent through the forest into open moorland, spotting exotic plants like the giant lobelia and groundsel. Stop for lunch, with your first views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks on a clear day.
Continue to Horombo Hut, arriving in the mid-afternoon. Rest and prepare for a cold night. Dinner and overnight at the hut.
Day 4: Horombo Hut, Acclimatization Day
Have breakfast while taking in the views. Today is set aside for acclimatization, giving your body time to adjust to the altitude. Choose to rest at the hut or join a guided day trek on Mawenzi ridge, which is recommended to aid acclimatization. Return to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After breakfast, trek to Kibo Hut at the base of the Kibo crater wall. Fill your water bottles at the last water point before Kibo Hut. An early dinner is served so you can rest before your final ascent that night.
Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Your guide will wake you around 23:00 hrs for tea and biscuits before the final summit attempt, the most physically challenging part of the trek. By dawn, reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m / 18,652 ft) on Kibo’s crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341 ft), the highest point on the African continent.
Take photos, then descend to Kibo Hut for lunch before continuing to Horombo Hut for your last dinner on the mountain.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
After a final breakfast on the mountain, descend to Marangu Gate through the rainforest. Sign for departure and receive your summit certificate. Your driver will take you back to your hotel in Arusha for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and one of the best places to spot elephants in the wild.
With a packed lunch, join an afternoon game drive on arrival, spotting buffaloes, cheetahs, impalas, giraffes, hippos, and thousands of flamingos that flock to the lake seasonally. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 9: Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park
Join a pre sunrise game drive in Lake Manyara National Park to catch predators and big cats during their morning hunt. Return to your lodge for breakfast, then exit Lake Manyara and drive to Serengeti National Park.
Arrive in the afternoon, have lunch, then head out for an introductory afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 10: Full Day Exploration of the Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, set out for a full day game viewing experience across the endless plains of the Serengeti. Depending on the time of year, you may witness the great migration. Animals include wildebeests, lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, black rhinos, gazelles, giraffes, zebras, elands, hyenas, cheetahs, and antelopes. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 11: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Join an early morning game drive to spot big cats and predators feasting on their morning kill, and watch the sunrise over the Serengeti plains. Optional hot air balloon safari available at an extra cost.
After breakfast, transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Arrive in time for lunch, then join a scenic game drive around the crater rim. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater Full Day Exploration
This picturesque caldera is home to almost 30,000 animals. Spend around 6 hours game viewing on the crater floor, with a chance to spot all of the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and black rhinos.
Other animals include hippos, elands, wildebeests, zebras, oribis, waterbucks, Thomson’s gazelles, hyenas, and cheetahs.
Ascend to the crater rim after the activity and drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
