The Etosha National Park Plains

Day 1: Transfer from Windhoek to Sossusvlei

Get picked up at your hotel or Windhoek International Airport and set off for Sossusvlei. Drive through the Khomas Hochland highlands, down the escarpments, and into the Namib Desert.

Stop for a picnic lunch, then arrive at your lodge by mid-afternoon to check in. Today’s activities include visiting the old Sesriem Canyon and the tall red Sossusvlei dunes with a trained guide, or simply relax at the lodge and take in the desert views.

Day 2: Sossusvlei Excursion

Start with a good breakfast, then transfer to Namib-Naukluft National Park with your guide, setting off before sunrise to see the dunes in the soft morning light. The Namib Desert has some of the tallest free-standing dunes in the world.

Your guide will share how the dunes formed and how plants and animals adapt to desert conditions. Enjoy a picnic brunch under a camel-thorn tree, then continue exploring Sossusvlei, Elim Dune, and Deadvlei.

Return to the lodge to relax and prepare for the next day.

Day 3: Hot Air Balloon Safari and Transfer to Swakopmund

Enjoy a sunrise hot air balloon trip over the Namib-Naukluft and Sossusvlei dunes. Then head to Swakopmund, passing views of the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons along the way.

Drive along the coast through Walvis Bay on your way north to Swakopmund. Explore the town and waterfront before dinner at one of the local seafood restaurants.

Day 4: Explore Swakopmund, Adventure Capital of Namibia

With your guide, head to Walvis Bay for a kayaking trip, with a chance to see Cape fur seals, pelicans, dolphins, flamingos, and various seabirds.

Take a short drive to Pelican Point to see the lighthouse, or join a motorized boat trip with fresh oyster snacks and local sparkling wine. Explore the Walvis Bay waterfront before returning to Swakopmund to relax in the afternoon.

Other activities in Swakopmund include quad biking, camel rides, and skydiving.

Day 5: To Damaraland

Leave Swakopmund for Damaraland, one of Namibia’s most varied areas. Pass by Brandberg, Namibia’s tallest mountain at 2,573m, with good views of wildlife and the land around it.

If time allows, visit the old Twyfelfontein rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stay overnight at one of the best lodges in the Damaraland area.

Day 6: Day Excursion in Damaraland

Join a game drive through the river valleys, looking for wildlife, especially the desert-adapted elephants. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way, then continue exploring local attractions.

Return to the lodge or camp for a guided nature walk.

Day 7: To Southern Etosha National Park

Set off from Damaraland to southern Etosha National Park, arriving early enough for an afternoon game drive in your safari vehicle.

Days 8 to 9: Explore Etosha National Park

Spend two full days on guided game drives in Etosha National Park, home to over 114 mammal species and 340 bird species. Look for cheetahs, warthogs, zebras, hyenas, kudus, elands, gemsbok, black-faced impalas, leopards, and honey badgers, with morning and afternoon sessions, including lunch out in the park.

Day 10: Transfer to Windhoek

Depart from Etosha National Park on a 4 to 5 hour drive to Windhoek. Arrive in the early afternoon and fly back home, marking the end of your 10-day Namibia safari.

Book this 10-Day Namibia Safari today and see Sossusvlei, Etosha, and desert-adapted elephants in one trip.
