Tanzania national parks
Tanzania is located in East Africa with about 30% of the country land under conservation area. The country is famous for it’s high density of wildlife and some best wildlife viewing experience and some of the park can be seen below;
Serengeti national park
Serengeti national park is a true gem and pristine wilderness teeming up with vast wildlife hence making it one of the most visited national parks in the country. This is also where the great Wildebeests migrations takes place from. One of the greatest wildlife show you will see on earth.
Ruaha national park
Ruaha national park was recognized as a lion conservation unit boasting with 10% of lion populations in the world. It’s also home to other various wildlife and numerous species of birds.
Mount Kilimanjaro national park
Mount Kilimanjaro national park is home to Mount Kilimanjaro which is the highest mountain in Africa. It’s one of the famous places tourists visit in the country and the main activity here is mountain climbing.
Arusha national park
The spectacular Arusha national park is one of the smallest national parks of Tanzania but nevertheless it’s rich with biodiversity providing it’s visitors a lot of activities like hiking mount Meru Tanzania’s second highest mountain, cruising at the momella lakes, nature guided walks, birding and wildlife watching.
Lake Manyara national park
Lake Manyara national park is renowned for it’s tree climbing lions not found elsewhere on earth except Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda. Lake Manyara derives it’s name from the spectacular lake Manyara found within the park.
Tarangire national park
Tarangire national park is one of the best national parks you can visit in the country. It provides visitors with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities and it’s also a birders paradise with over 500 species of birds recorded.
Mahale mountains national park
Mahale mountains national park provides tourists a unique experience of chimpanzee trekking in Tanzania. The park covers the Mahale mountain ranges at the backdrop of lake Tanganyika.
Mikumi national park
Mikumi national park covers an area of 3220 kilometers squared established in 1964. The park is home to various wildlife and birds and one of the best places for hiking at the montane forests.
Mkomazi national park
Mkomazi national park is renowned for it’s scenic views of mount Kilimanjaro and Usambara mountains, it was established in 2005 as a national park and provides good wildlife viewing and birding experience.
Nyerere Selous national park
Nyerere national park boasts as one of the largest national parks in Africa. It’s supports numerous mammals and birds.
Gombe stream national park
Gombe stream national park is situated along lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. This is one of the places where you can visit chimpanzees from in Tanzania and used to be a spot where the famous primatologist Jane Goodhall stayed from studying and researching about endangered chimpanzees.
Katavi national park
Katavi national park is home to some of the largest herds of Buffalos you will find in Africa. It’s located in the southwestern part of the country created in 1974. Wildlife viewing here is spectacular especially during the dry season when the katuna river banks are filled with wildlife and great sightings of hippos and crocodiles.
Saadani national park
Saadani national park is one of those unique national parks found at the coast of the Indian ocean in Tanzania. It’s home to the big five and other animals like; mongoose, colobus monkeys, bohor reedbucks, hartebeest, Masai giraffe, blue Wildebeests, sable antelopes and dik diks among the rest.
Udzungwa mountains national park
Udzungwa mountains national park was created in 1992 by prince Bernhard of Netherlands who was the founder of world wide fund. The park has got very rich diversity of numerous wildlife, 400 species of birds, 2500 plant species, Udzungwa mountains and so much more.
Bugiri chato national park
Bugiri Chato national park is found at the border of Lake Victoria. It’s home to the Cape Elands one of the biggest antelopes in the world. Bugiri Chato also provides spectacular views for beautiful photography opportunities as it’s with Lake Bugiri, Akagera river and Lake Victoria.
Ibanda kyerwa national park
Ibanda Kyerwa national park was first gazetted as a reserve and recently upgraded to a national park in 2019. The park boasts with diverse wildlife and renowned for it’s stunning sunrises and sunsets over the horizon plains.
Kitulo national park
Kitulo national park is found at Kitulo plateau at the southern islands of Tanzania. This park was mainly established to protect it’s unique flora and fauna with 350 plant species found here and several species of birds. It’s an idle place for hiking and forest walks.
Rubondo island national park
Rubondo island national park is found on an island in Lake Victoria. Chimpanzees have been introduced to the forest island to breed in their natural environment. Rubondo island national park is the best place for sport fishing on lake Victoria in Tanzania and also a birders paradise.
The other parks are; Nyerere national park, Rumanyika Karagwe national park, Saanane national park and Ugalla river national park.
