Best time to visit Kenya
Kenya is one of the best tourism destinations you can visit in Africa. Tourism is one of the leading sources of foreign income in the country. The country is renowned for it’s unique landscapes, vast wildlife and hospitable people.

Best time to visit Kenya
Kenya’s climate is favorable mostly with warm weather throughout the year, there are two main wet seasons and dry season annually.
Although Kenya can be visited all year round, some months are far better than the rest depending on the activity one want to do while in the country.
Although the whole country may experience the same weather throughout the year, it gets cooler and warmer in some areas for example; the coastal area temperatures can average from 22° to 38°© therefore more hot and humid, highlands, forests are relatively cool with templates ranging from 10° to 20°© while the rift valley areas are also drier and hot with temperatures of between 11°© to 27°©.
Best time for wildlife watching
The best time for wildlife watching in the country is during the dry seasons of July to September and December to February. During the dry season, the grass in the nation park is short and not think, some seasonal water sources also dry out, therefore animals are mainly concentrated on permanent water points and animals are very visible because the vegetation is not thick.
The dry season from July to September also concedes with the great Wildebeests migration at the Masai Mara game reserve. The Wildebeests migration happens annually and starts from Ngorongoro conservation area where animals stay from December to March, this is also the calving season before they move to the south of Serengeti then to the north and start crossing the river in July to the Masai Mara game reserve. Wildebeests, Zebras and other antelopes are closely followed up by predators like lions, leopards, hyenas and cheetahs while the crocodiles wait to ambush at the river crossings. This is a great opportunity for watching the most spectacular wildlife show on earth. The best time for Wildebeests migration watching and river crossings is from mid July to late September before the wildebeests cross back to Serengeti.
Some of the commons wildlife you will see on safari include; lions, leopards, cheetahs. Elephants, African buffalo, hyenas, zebras, gazelles, hartebeest, kudus, hippos, waterbucks, Thompson’s gazelles, Impalas, Beisa Oryx, giraffes, bush bucks and so many others.
Best time for birding
Kenya is a birders paradise with about 1150 species of birds recorded in the country and this include both migrants and endemics. There are several birding destinations allover the country that provide a thrilling experience and most of these birds are in national parks where you can as well spot wildlife.
Birding in Kenya can be done all year round but the exceptional best months are from October to April, this is because during these months migratory birds from Europe and some parts of Africa are present. The other advantage of October to April is that most resident birds are nesting or breeding plumage in their habitats making them easy to spot.
Best time for mountain climbing
Kenya is home to the second highest mountain in Africa and there are several mountains and hills that tourists can climb and hike from. The best time to do mountain climbing and hiking is during the drier months of December to February and June to August. During the dry seasons, the sky is clear for spectacular views on top, the trails are also dry unlike during the wet season when the hiking trails are muddy and slippery.
Best time to visit the coast
The Kenyan coast is renowned for it’s white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and vast marine life. The coast can be visited throughout the years although the best months for a better experience are from October to January because this months offer the best conditions for scuba diving and snorkeling. The best whale shark sighting are from January to March.
Best time to visit the people
Some tourists come to Kenya just to visit the people, there are over 40 tribes found throughout the country, each of these tribes have distinctive customs, cultural beliefs and so much more to show to the rest of the world. Tourists intending to come to Kenya for cultural tourism can visit any time of the year.
Low season
The above months are the best time for visiting the country although some budget travelers prefer to visit during the low wet seasons although wildlife watching and mountain climbing are not favorable at this time, most hotels and tour operators offer off season rates for travelers coming during the wet low season. The wet season is usually from March to May and October to November.
